About Dave Prince

Hi everyone I’m Dave Prince and I’m the presenter of Coffee Bar Classics on a Sunday afternoon on STR. I was born in Crewe in 1946, yes I’m 80. My brain says I’m 18 and my body says I’m 97!! I’ve lived in South Cheshire all my life and love being here. Before I retired from proper work, over 20 years ago now, I was an accountant. I know it sounds boring but I actually loved what I did. Between 1964 and 2025 I was also a musician, played guitar and sang a bit. I was in all sorts of bands, made records, did telly, played for royalty but always at my desk for 9am, and then fell asleep.

In March last year because I was giving up playing it became a story and I got interviewed on radio, just happened to say that you don’t cater for my generation on your station and Coffee Bar Classics was born. Coffee Bar Classics is music for the Baby Boomer generation but we’re finding that youngsters are getting into the music. I was told “ I visit my gran on a Sunday morning and she’s got Roy Orbison playing and I’ve become hooked.” We play music from mid 50’s to mid 60’s but we’re flexible with that.

So you’ll hear all the big hits from all the big stars plus some forgotten gems, loads of info and a bit of a giggle. Also a few little features:- A side B side, where we play both sides of a big hit. Story Behind The Song, it’s surprising the history of some of our favourites. You Won’t Hear This On Radio Two, the sort of songs that don’t get played anywhere anymore. Jive Time, which is our most popular thing. Proper jiving music, as I was told very early on, isn’t just rock ‘n’ roll. So a jive club in Sussex that listened in to CBC now send me two jive tracks every week.
